This course introduces EVM concepts and applications in the broader context of successful program management. In addition to learning the principles, terminology, metrics and processes associated with an EVM system, participants also gain an appreciation for how EVM increases the probability of an effort’s success. Participants who successfully complete this course will be able to apply proven methods to efficiently implement EVM, as well as effectively apply EVM to program management.
EVM 102–Program Management Using Earned Value Management
Building on EVM 101, this course guides participants deeper into the use of EVM as a program management technique. It provides participants with an in-depth understanding of advanced EVM implementation processes and procedures. The course presents and describes organization-specific program management processes that will be used on selected programs. Participants learn how to develop project plans for schedule, cost and earned value, as well as the process for developing status program schedules and generating control account performance and variance explanation reports.
EVM 103–Mastering Integrated Baseline Reviews
EVM 103 prepares program teams to conduct successful Integrated Baseline Reviews (IBRs). Participants learn how to prepare for and use IBRs to assess program plans, risks and mitigation strategies “in order to improve the probability of achieving a program’s technical, schedule and cost objectives. The course introduces methods for planning and executing an IBR that fosters a mutual understanding between the organization and its suppliers regarding the program’s objectives, plan, risk and mitigation actions. Additionally, participants learn what actions should be taken after an IBR is completed in order to ensure additional risks are identified as the program progresses.
EVM 301–Earned Value Management and the Bottom Line
Developed especially for executive-level decision makers, this course provides an overview of enterprise EVM for leaders who require a high-level understanding of EVM concepts. Participants learn the overarching philosophy of EVM at the enterprise portfolio level, the importance of observing system engineering and risk management tenets, and what the executive’s role is in an EVM implementation. Participants discover how compliant EVM systems are organized, planned, performed, analyzed and reported at the enterprise level and how to assess and maintain a properly implemented EVM system.
EVM 302–The Strategic Value of Earned Value Management
EVM 302 is intended for executive-level decision makers who require a deeper understanding of proven EVM techniques and the ability to apply them. Participants critique and assess an EVM system based on a notional case study to determine its level of ANSI-748 compliance, as well as explore “hot topics” in the EVM community. Additionally, participants learn how to sustain a properly implemented EVM system through routine data analysis and annual surveillance in order to drive higher organizational performance.
